Client Testimonials

Since becoming the director of engineering at Carteret General Hospital in 2016, I’ve had a lot of interactions with the Hoffman team. From annual spring and fall preventative maintenance contracts to controls upgrades on older systems to new controls systems, the work is always done professionally. It’s an excellent relationship, and I always have positive things to say about the Hoffman Building Technologies team.

Projects at High Point University are complex. It is critical to integrate our building systems to improve overall building management and efficiency. Hoffman’s team exhibits a greatly appreciated professionalism, knowledge, and a can-do attitude.

My relationship with Hoffman Building Technologies started as a vendor, but they have grown into a trusted vendor partner over the years. It has gone beyond the contractual relationship because Hoffman is in the game with us, not just as a peripheral player. They’re responsive and communicative, and I know they’ll pick up the phone if I call them for an emergency, even in the middle of the night.

Hoffman does what they say they’re going to do, and they do it right. We had a situation where we had some equipment installed, and it wasn’t right. Even though Hoffman didn’t perform the installation, they stepped in and worked to get the equipment right. From the salespeople to the techs who come out to the account managers, every single person we work with is top-notch. We are just as happy as can be.

CASE STUDY

High Point University

Hoffman Building Technologies completed controls installation on the 222,000-square-foot High Point University Health Science and Pharmacy project.

Challenge

To ensure the safety and comfort of occupants, the newly constructed building on HPU’s campus must be equipped with the necessary lighting, air, and HVAC controls. As this building houses laboratories, air control is crucial.

Solution

To optimize occupant performance and comfort, this project integrates a number of critical systems. Utilizing nLight lighting control technology, the facility integrates time-based, occupancy-based, daylight-based, and manual lighting controls. With nLight, intelligent lighting control devices can communicate with occupancy sensors, photocells, power/relay packs, wall switches, panels, and dimmers. Through the integration of building automation systems and nLight, a synchronized network between HVAC and lighting is created that optimizes facility performance. Additionally, Aircuity and Alerton were used to ensure that the facility’s laboratories were ready for classroom instruction. As a result of using BACnet interface, the lab critical control air valves can be remotely controlled, allowing for even greater control over the lab environment. A BACnet interface was also used to control general HVAC throughout the building using fanwall controllers.

Results

Congdon School of Health Sciences and Wilson School of Pharmacy now have complete lighting control over the facility, improving energy efficiency. Every lab in the building has airflow control, which facilitates classroom instruction and ensures accurate research results. Also, the entire facility can now be controlled via BACnet, which simplifies the work of the facility management team.
